5 health issues you risk getting if you don’t have enough sleep

Many people underrate the power of sleep, especially those with a lot of bills to pay.

A good sleep ensures that you are well stable enough to face the day’s activities without any immediate and future health risks.

These are diseases that one may develop as a result of not having enough sleep:

  1. High blood pressure

A good sleep enables our bodies to rejuvenate and get rid of toxins from our systems.

Sleep deprivation denies the body these critical functions, with the heart being affected, hence high blood pressure.

When you have enough sleep, there is a balance in hormones.

However, when you deprive yourself of sleep, you trigger cortisol hormone responsible for stress and reduce insulin in your body.

The two hormones are responsible for high sugar levels in the blood.

  1. Dementia

Over time, a persistent and consistent lack of sleep affects our brains.

Denying the brain a chance to rest will eventually lead to memory loss.

  1. Depression

Research shows that people who suffer from insomnia are more likely to be depressed.

As such, you should go to bed early, and at the same time every day to ensure that you have adequate sleep.

  1. Aches and pains

When we sleep, we allow our bodies to repair damages that may have occurred as we engaged in strenuous activities during the day.

A lack of sleep means that the body is unable to repair damaged tissues hence aches and pains.
